The Dog House Dog or Alive is the western chapter of the series: a dusty town, a sheriff's star in place of the kennel and a safe in place of the bone. The demo runs right here on the page — virtual balance, no account, nothing to install. The mechanics sit closest to the original, but the real numbers make it the harshest game in the franchise: only one spin in six pays anything, which is exactly why the game itself is marked high volatility.

We run thousands of spins through the slot's calibrated maths and show what the game looks like over the long run — not just one lucky big win.

Example: Bet €4, three Rottweilers on a line: 4 × 2.5 = €10. Five would pay €150.

The wild lands on reels 2, 3 and 4. The multipliers of all wilds on one line are added together.
As soon as three, six or nine wilds have gathered on screen, the multipliers of ALL wilds double and the round is extended by three spins.
A 3×3 grid draws the number before the round starts: every cell shows 1, 2 or 3 spins, and the cells are added up.
Wilds that land on reels 2-4 stay until the bonus ends, keeping the multiplier they arrived with.
Three safes on reels 1, 3 and 5 start the round and pay five times your total bet.
The bonus round can be bought for one hundred total bets.
The mechanic worth coming here for runs on a counter. While the free spins play out, wilds accumulate on the middle reels. As soon as there are three of them, the game awards three extra spins and doubles the multipliers of every wild on screen. At six wilds it happens again; at nine, once more. A ×3 wild becomes ×12 after two doublings, and by that point the round has been extended by nine spins. That is where the 10,000× ceiling comes from, against the original's 6,750×, even though the symbol payouts are identical.
Set line by line against the base The Dog House, the main game is almost unchanged: five reels, three rows, twenty lines, the same symbol payouts, wilds with ×2 or ×3 on the middle reels and multipliers that add up. The whole difference sits in the bonus — and it changes the character of the game. In the original the round is static: however many wilds have stuck, that is what you play with. Here the round accelerates itself, and the longer it lasts the faster the multipliers grow.
The 3×3 grid that draws 9 to 27 free spins before the round starts is inherited from the original unchanged, so everything separating the two games comes down to the doubling counter.
The hit rate is what stands out: only 16.15% of spins pay anything, the lowest figure in the series. The median bonus is the smallest too — 32× the bet, against 37-47× for the rest. Those two numbers are the portrait of the game: it pays less often and less generously in the base game so that the rare rounds can hit harder. Where the data comes from and how we count it is on the methodology page.
"High volatility" here is the game's own official marking rather than a phrase out of reviews — one of only two in the series, alongside Muttley Crew. And it shows: a winning spin arrives once every 6.2 spins on average, against once every 3.6 for the flagship and 3.5 for Royal Hunt. Nearly twice as many empty spins.
The compensation sits in the tail of the distribution: a win of 1,000× the bet or more comes about once every 37,000 spins — more often than in any other measured game in the series, where the flagship needs about 57,000 and Royal Hunt about 76,000. That is the honest formula of Dog or Alive: fewer payouts now in exchange for a more realistic shot at a big one later. A short session is settled by luck; what a long one looks like is what the simulator above draws.
The mechanics show where the big wins live. Two doublings turn a ×3 wild into ×12, and the added multipliers of several sticky wilds on one line then lift an already top combination. Five sheriff Rottweilers pay ×37.5 — with a couple of wound-up wilds, that is the road to four-figure multipliers. It is a rare road, though: a win of 100× the bet or more comes about once every 664 spins.
The paytable repeats the original to the cent; only the artwork has changed. At the top is the sheriff Rottweiler: ×2.5 for three symbols, ×7.5 for four and ×37.5 for five. Then the Shih Tzu (×25 for five), the pug (×15), the dachshund (×10), the collar (×7.5) and the bone (×5); the card symbols pay ×1.25 to ×2.5 for five in a row. Every number is a multiple of your total bet.
The two special roles are here as well, in new costumes: the wild is now a sheriff's star with the same ×2/×3 on reels 2-4, and the bonus is a safe instead of a paw — three of them on reels 1, 3 and 5 pay five bets and open the free spins. The full table with pictures is below on this page.
The change of theme is not cosmetic: the symbols, the sound and the presentation have moved wholesale into a western. For the series this was the first experiment with setting — the pirates of Muttley Crew and the royal hunt of Royal Hunt followed.
Worth it if you are deliberately choosing the swing: long empty stretches in exchange for the liveliest shot at a thousand-fold win in the series. The doubling at three, six and nine wilds makes every drawn-out bonus genuinely tense — the round accelerates itself, and the rare rounds that reach a ninth sticky wild are the ones pulling the bonus average up. How large their share is can be seen in the simulator.
Honestly about the price: only one spin in six brings anything back, the median bonus is 32× the bet, the smallest in the franchise, and half of the rounds bought for 100 bets will not return a third of that price. A balance drains faster here than in the medium-volatility games, which is worth knowing in advance — the free demo is the cheapest place to feel the rhythm.
The verdict: Dog or Alive is for hunters of the tail of the distribution, and the worst pick for anyone who wants an even session. If you want the same foundation but softer, Royal Hunt pays every 3.5 spins; for a genuinely steady rhythm there are the flagship and Multihold.
Three of the fifteen casinos serve Dog or Alive at its full 96.52%: IRIS, with a €500 bet ceiling, WinSpirit, with €100, and RX, with €24. Drakaris runs a middle 95.54% build capped at €24. Everywhere else — LuckyGem, RocketPlay, Ritzo, Spin Samurai, Wild Fortune, 21bit24, Casino Rocket, SpinPanda, MateSlots, Mr Punter and Spininio — the game loads at 94.54%, 1.98 percentage points below the top build.
For the second of the series' two high-volatility games, that spread behaves differently from how it would on a medium title. High volatility defers a large share of the return into rare, outsized outcomes; between them, the 94.54% build plays indistinguishably from the 96.52% one. The difference is real all the same — it settles over the long run rather than showing up in a single evening.
The ceilings refuse to line up with the RTP. Eleven casinos share the identical 94.54% build yet set three different euro limits — €10 at SpinPanda, €24 across the six-casino group, €240 at LuckyGem and Spininio — plus AU$50 at MateSlots and CHF 24 at Mr Punter, which bet in Australian dollars and Swiss francs and cannot be set against the euro figures directly. Only the floor is universal: a €0.20 minimum wherever the game runs.
